Signs of a Termite Infestation

Termites are notorious for their ability to hide, but there are several telltale signs you should watch for to detect their presence:

• Hollow-Sounding Wood: Tap walls, floors, or wooden furniture. If the wood sounds hollow, termites may have eaten away at the inside, compromising its structure.
• Mud Tubes: Termites create these thin, pencil-sized tunnels along walls, foundations, or wood structures as they travel from their colony to their food source. Find them to confirm a termite infestation.
• Discarded Wings: Termites shed their wings after mating. You may find piles of these wings near windows, doors, or other entry points, which is a key indicator of a termite problem.
• Damage to Paint or Wallpaper: As termites tunnel through wood, they can damage the surface. Look for bubbling, peeling, or small holes in the paint or wallpaper. This damage often occurs when termites are feeding underneath the surface.
• Frass (Droppings): Termites leave behind wood-colored droppings known as frass, which can resemble wood dust or small pellets. Finding frass around the infestation site is a strong sign of a termite presence.
• Ill-Fitting Doors and Windows: Termite damage to wood can affect the door and window frames, causing them to stick or become difficult to operate. If you notice this, it could be due to termites compromising the integrity of the wood.
